Perinatal Mental Health & Wellbeing
Having a baby, whilst bringing lots of joy and happiness, can also be a time of high anxiety, especially for new parents. There is now lots of research showing that lowering cortisol during this period - from conception up to the first year of a child’s life – has a lasting impact on the mental health and wellbeing of the child and parent.
It takes a village
Connecting with nature and with other people who understand what you’re going through is priceless. Sharing your experiences and connecting with others builds strong bonds. We are here to support you through your journey, and to make it as stress free as possible.
Nature connectedness
Regular contact with a specific natural space, connecting with that space and feeling a sense of belonging and safety, builds nature connectedness for the parents. Enabling them to benefit from the mental health and wellbeing benefits of this space. This increases the probability that they will continue to visit natural spaces with their children. Research shows that guidance from a nature connected adult is one of the most important aspects to nature connectedness in children as they grow.
Cosy Mummas (& Pappas) Thrive Tribe
With the Cosy Mummas Thrive Tribe our aim is to provide a welcoming, nurturing environment where we focus on seasonal themes, building appreciation and connection to nature through mindful nature-based activities, foraging and cooking on a campfire. Supporting parents’ mental health and wellbeing from their 3rd trimester up to the end of the baby’s first year.
The sessions will be run by Mindy Pickering and Becky Poulter-Jewson for an hour and a half, on Thursday afternoons at our Oxstalls Campus site in Gloucester.
Small group sizes up to 10 participants, keep the groups small enough to encourage building community and support networks.
The cost is either £5 or £10 per session, this decision we leave to you, and you can pay whatever suits your present circumstances. We are able to subsidise the sessions with the funding we have secured. Paying the higher amount means we are able to cover our costs and enables the funding to last longer.
So come and join the Cosy Mummas (& Pappas) Thrive Tribe and find your village!
Over the past 16 years of running forest school parent toddler groups Mindy has had many pregnant mums and newborn babies attending with an older toddler, and has adapted sessions to accommodate their needs in the outdoors.
Becky has 25 years’ experience working with children and families, she has worked in children's centres supporting pregnant and new mums and has run baby massage classes.
